New Horizons for Learning is accepting submissions for our first special edition journal focusing on special education topics!

  • April is Autism Awareness Month!

The first publication of the Special Education Journal will focus on topics of meeting the diverse needs of students with Autism Spectrum Disorders in their least restrictive environments (LRE). Possible topics can include but are not limited to use of assistive technology, impact of the changing economic climate, transition planning, or addressing family concerns.   • Highlighting Response to Intervention

The second Special Education Journal will focus on implementation of Response to Intervention (RTI). We are interested in learning about the innovative ways in which schools and districts are implementing RTI, as well as problems and solutions related to implementation.   • Bridging Research and Practice

The first thematic publication of our Journal will focus on our ultimate vision of connecting teachers and researchers in a virtual roundtable. This is much easier written than accomplished in a field where the research to practice gap is so wide. We are interested in learning about the innovative ways in which teachers, researchers, schools, and districts are experimenting, collaborating, and problem solving to learn more about the forces which divide and connect education experts, as well as their effects on student learning.   • Open Submissions

New Horizons for Learning is an international network of people, programs, and products dedicated to successful, innovative learning.  We welcome submissions from teachers, researchers, parents, students, museum directors or guides, librarians, administrators, policy makers, neuroscientists, economists, sociologists, statisticians, education non-profits, and anyone else interested in learning. Article topics for our Quarterly Journal are open to any subject relevant to the field of education.

Collaboration among all education professionals is a key mission of New Horizons for Learning. Possible submissions include academic articles, lesson plans, rubrics, assessments, experiments, student work examples, and any other materials that will encourage collaboration and growth. The purpose of this site is to provide a forum that will facilitate an open dialogue between researchers and front-line professionals. Any articles or projects that were inspired by information from the New Horizons for Learning journal or Web site are especially encouraged. Submissions will be accepted on a rolling basis for review by our editors. Please submit to

Submission Guidelines

Manuscript Requirements

Manuscripts submitted to New Horizons for Learning are reviewed only if they meet the following criteria:

Content: The article is not under presently under review elsewhere. Content of the article is original and has not been previously published in whole or in part. All of the authors agree to submit the article to New Horizons for Learning.

Length: Submissions of approximately five pages are suggested, but papers of any length may be submitted. This may be supplemented with or substituted by PowerPoints, photos, videos, interactive lesson plans, and/or web presence collaboration with our site users. The more interdisciplinary, collaborative, multi-media, scenario-based, the better. Please take this unique opportunity to be as creative as possible and share with our readers the initiatives and research you are doing to transform education. We want to create a generative process where users are inspired to contribute and join force.

Style: Manuscripts should be in APA style, including an APA reference list and abstract of no more than 175 words.

Additions: Include a recent photograph and biography. Include a cover letter that acknowledges the article is original, not under review elsewhere, and all authors agree to the submission. Include an additional bibliography of helpful and relevant sources to allow readers to explore the topics covered in greater depth.
